How to Cut a Pineapple

Cutting pineapples may seem difficult, but it's really a children's game. There are several ways of cutting it, with additional tools or without, so I'm going to illustrate a few of them.

The easiest way: using a pineapple cutter

By far, the easiest way of cutting a pineapple is using a pineapple cutter: this tool consists of a sharp spiral, much like Archimedes' screw, that cuts its way into pineapples' flesh with a spiral-shaped cut, leaving the core intact. You can find pineapple cutters of different sizes, to make sure you don't leave out too much flesh.

  • First, get a pineapple cutter like the one in the picture.

  • Then, remove the crown with a sharp knife.

  • Put the cutter at the center of the cut side, then turn the spiral around, the result is shown in the picture.

Cutting pineapples like a local

A second method, that tends to preserve the most flesh, is cutting them like a local:

  • Then, remove the outer shell, don't worry about the "eyes", we'll take care of them later.
